Aimbot
I responded today to the Aimbot that keeps trying to IM me. I had never done so before, and wanted to see what they would do. The following is a transcript of our conversation (with anasan26.) I love the internet.

OsX Lion, cx_Oracle, and pain
Fought all afternoon trying to get cx_Oracle to play nicely with OsX Lion DP3. It seems that the x86_64 libclntsh.dylib.10.1 library is segfaulting for some reason in Lion. Finally figured out a solution - install only the i386 libraries, and then force OsX to prefer the i386 library version (though this is a universal setting, so it is not the best solution).
defaults write com.apple.versioner.python Prefer-32-Bit -bool yes
or via shell var:
export VERSIONER_PYTHON_PREFER_32_BIT=yes

Upgrading to Natty Narwhal
I'm in-process currently on the upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 -> 11.04 (beta). I love that (almost) all Ubuntu upgrades tend to go smoothly. Let's hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot by making that statement.
Natty marks the shift from Gnome to Unity as the default desktop for the OS of choice for many a geek. I'm not sure that I'll be making the jump... I have a lot of muscle memory invested in shortcuts for compiz. Some call it eye candy, but I very much use the compositing features in my work flow. Grouping/Tabbing windows is a godsend on my 13" Macbook Pro screen, where real-estate is definitely at a premium. And call me silly, but I now find that windows that don't "wobble" feel somewhat incomplete... an ersatz, juvenile imitation of a window.
Anyways, hopefully my upgrade is painless and has some nice new features to play with.

Ubuntu 10.10 + Liquorix == ZOOM
I've been craving getting my hands on a kernel running 2.6.37 (big power saving bugfix in there) with the awesome AUTOGROUP patch applied. I was about to start down the path of building my own kernel from kernel.org with all of the ubuntu patches and fixes applied. A daunting task... I don't really have time for that!
I came across the Liquorix repo, and decided to give it a try. They are a "distro replacement kernel" repo. They take the latest and greatest patches and apply them to the kernel to make an ultimate replacement kernel for desktop use.
So far, results have been good. My only complaint currently is that cpu frequency scaling was disabled in this kernel for most modules, in turn causing my core2 duo proc not to scale. Regardless, the battery life has been better than it was on 2.6.35 with frequency scaling enabled. I'll be rebuilding the liquorix kernel with the frequency scaling reenabled soon.
